Listed Building Staircase, Yorkshire

Recommended as listed building staircase specialists by National Parks, Bisca were commissioned to design, manufacture and install a contemporary staircase in a listed coach house in the North of England.

It was an interesting project as English Heritage stipulated that some of the existing ancient beam and ironwork had to remain in situ, so our designers had to work the new staircase layout around them.

A zig zag effect was created by offsetting the continuous treads and risers of fumed oak against white plastered soffits.  A low iron glass balustrade was chosen to let maximum light through into the property.

Putting a contemporary staircase into a period property has challenges both physically and aesthetically, but done properly, as this example illustrates, the results can be amazing.

Over the years Bisca have earned a reputation as listed building staircase specialists. This is due to many reasons, our design, attention to detail, bespoke nature of our staircases and workmanship but to name a few. Crucially, all interfaces are also bespoke and designed FOR a property, not ordered in from a parts catalogue.
