Bisca are 2016 Finalists at Northern Design Awards
We are proud to be one of the 2016 Finalists at the Northern Design Awards.
Following last year’s success, this year we are pinning our hopes on a floating helical staircase.
The new build property has real Yorkshire integrity in its design. The exterior is crafted from gorgeous Yorkshire stone with cantilevered pillars over the doorways, whilst elements of Mackintosh inspired design are evident throughout the internal décor.
The design is lightweight, and uses structural balustrading instead of solid stringers. Tread end caps cut from the treads themselves give the effect of the timber grain continuing through the glass.
The journey up the staircase begins organically, becoming more angular as it reaches the first floor. Clean lines, panelled walls, central mirror and rectangular glass balustrade are inspired by Mackintosh.
Low iron glass landing balustrading is capped with pale profiled oak handrails.
Overarching the whole staircase area is the beauty of the panelled roof light. The well detailed panel shares the same angular theme as the interior wall panels and ceiling.
The design meets the clients brief allowing in light, direction of travel and architectural sculpture.
