Floating Staircase Replacement, Harrogate

When our clients first took ownership of this farmhouse, it lacked clarity and connection. Rooms felt disjointed, light was restricted, and the architectural character had been diluted over time. They came to Bisca with a vision; to restore a sense of harmony, elegance and purpose to their home. From the outset, it was clear this would require more than a simple staircase replacement.

Working in close collaboration with Studio4 Architecture and Anna Crecraft Interiors, we became part of a shared design journey. Brought in at concept stage, Bisca’s design team were able to influence the layout before it was fixed, allowing the staircase to shape the space, rather than be confined by it.

What emerged was a bold floating staircase replacement that redefined the heart of the home. Rising from the entrance hall, the staircase forms a graceful T-shape, dividing at a galleried landing above. Its presence draws you in on arrival, guiding movement while introducing softness through carefully crafted curves and balanced proportions.

Every element was considered and refined – the geometry adjusted for comfort underfoot; precise junctions engineered between materials; and carpet runner integrated within each landing. Brass uprights were carefully aged to sit effortlessly within the wider interior palette.

Behind the scenes, Bisca worked closely with the wider team, advising on structural details, undertaking a full 3D survey, and ensuring every component aligned perfectly. The result is more than a staircase. The floating staircase design has formed a defining architectural feature – bringing light, flow and a renewed sense of beauty to a once fragmented home.
