Job Vacancy – Craftsperson / Fabricator / Blacksmith, North Yorkshire

Bisca designs and manufactures luxury staircases and currently has an available job vacancy, recruiting for a Craftsperson / Fabricator / Blacksmith, who will work from our head office in the beautiful North Yorkshire town of Helmsley.

Bisca has an undisputed reputation for designing, crafting and installing luxury staircases for some truly exquisite properties both in the UK and throughout the world. We are proud to have one of the most talented team of craftsmen in our industry and are currently looking to expand the team to meet continuous client demand.

Experience is desirable but by no means essential; however a passion or interest in crafting and fabrication is more important. Bisca is looking for the right person – somebody who has an attitude that matches our aspirations – and in return we will commit to offering comprehensive training and development opportunities, together with a secure and exciting future for years to come.

Salary: Negotiable depending on experience + benefits + working away allowance.

Relocation Support: Assistance with relocation may be considered for the right person.

The Role

As a Craftsperson / Blacksmith / Fabricator, you will be an important part of a small but hugely skilled team, using a wide range of materials and fabrication techniques, to create one-off staircase commissions to the highest possible standards. These standards have earned Bisca its reputation for superior quality and workmanship; and as one of the world’s leading staircase manufacturers.

Your role will involve fabricating structures from drawings using a wide range of processes. These include MIG/TIG welding, polishing, grinding, precision cutting forging and spraying to name just a few. Each staircase project is bespoke to the home it has been designed for; and so every day will be different, providing the opportunity to develop new skills and solve problems. You will also be comfortable working both unsupervised and as part of a talented team, willing to share ideas  and to support colleagues in achieving the best outcome possible.

Ongoing dialogue with our design and procurement departments is a pre-requisite for this position. You will also be involved with attending design briefings for your teams’s projects, playing a key role in its effective fulfilment.

After building a commission in Bisca’s workshop, your team will then install at a client’s premises. Throughout the project, your will ensure that your work consistently meets quality standards and is completed within time and cost constraints.

Key Skills and Experience

Our Craftsperson / Blacksmith / Fabricator role provides a varied mix of both in-house manufacturing with on-site installation, offering interesting and challenging work and the constant opportunity to develop new skills.

Ideally, you will have an interest in learning, or previous experience of metal working skills, along with other materials such as timber, stone and glass.

Working with private clients and on contractor operated building sites, as Bisca’s representative you must have the ability to communicate effectively and professionally at all levels.

We are looking for people who can show a passion for and demonstrate an understanding of fabrication techniques, whether this be through hobbies (for example automotive repair, sculpture, renovations etc) or through previous employment – such as from the agriculture, machinery, plant or equipment repair, manufacturing or engineering sectors.

Qualifications

  • Experience of metal work including MIG/TIG welding desirable – full training can be provided
  • 1 year minimum fabrication experience (either in related industry or through hobbies/interests/college)
  • Genuine pride in work that reflects your “careful eye for detail”
  • Interest in bespoke architectural manufacturing
  • Enthusiasm, positive attitude and a team player
  • The desire to continuously improve and develop new skills
  • Full drivers license
  • Previous blacksmithing experience desirable, although not essential – full training provided

The fabrication of Bisca’s staircases takes place in our Helmsley workshop, however there is a degree of working away with this position and so flexibility to travel to site installations both in the UK and overseas is required.
